Federal prosecutors allege that Ryan Wesley Rous, the man accused of trying to assassinate President Donald Trump, also tried to buy a rocket launcher from Ukraine.
The surprising revelation that the Assassin wanted to kill his then-presidential candidate is included in a motion to acknowledge evidence that may not be permitted under federal rules of evidence.
The revelation raises intrusive questions, if not frightening. Did Ukrainian dictator Volodmar Zelensky know about the purchase attempts that he has not warned US authorities?
According to the move, Routh owned ammunition for a high-powered sniper rifle and scouted the area a few months before attempting to kill the president on September 15th.
Travel evidence
The allegations explain that prosecutors have moved from North Carolina to West Palm Beach (area where he was not involved) from late March to early April 2024, spending more than a week and engaging in obvious reconnaissance for an attempted assassination.
Rouse remained at Palm Beach, where Trump plays golf at the Trump International Course, between March 29th and April 5th. He then returned to North Carolina.
During this trip, Routh engaged in some of the same acts as the August-September phase of the assassination plot, including using stolen license plates to avoid detection, purchases, and using multiple burner phones, and avoiding cash withdrawals, including the relocation of Western Union at a check cash store a quarter mile from Trump International.
The move says “the purpose is clear,” as he gives his friend a burner phone, ammunition, and a box with “a copy of his 'dear world' letter.”
The trip has to be admitted as it was a “substantial step” in a plot to kill Trump. The trip is “an undeniably necessary context for Ju to understand the importance of Lous' actions at Trump International on September 15th.
Both trips – from March to April and August to September – “It will hit the heart of Lous' long-standing criminal intent,” the prosecutor wrote.
Prosecutors say another important evidence is Rous' plan to flee to Mexico after killing Trump. Routh “had extensive WhatsApp conversations with someone saved by phone as “Lamilo” who lives in Mexico,” the move argues. These conversations “indicating his planned flight from law enforcement after committing a crime — showing that there is a good enough set of evidence that provides direct evidence of guilt.”
Weapon evidence
In addition to evidence of Routh's travel and escape plans, prosecutors introduce “evidence of “improvised destructive device components and .50 caliber ammunition” recovered from a box containing Routh's 'dear world' letter and his burner phone.
The box included a “barrel, pelvis and spring-equipped fire mechanism” to build a rifle to fire .50 caliber ammunition. The box also contained a manual on creating improvised explosives. Prosecutors also say the .50 caliber bullet is “trying after late August, get a .50 caliber sniper rifle.”
After that, there is the most shocking evidence.
“We tried to acquire anti-aircraft weapons. … That month, Routh tried to purchase the device online from Associate Raus, who is believed to be a Ukrainian with access to military weapons.”
According to the move, the pair discussed Trump's attempts to live in Butler, Pennsylvania in July, with Rous writing “through an encrypted messaging app, “I want.”
According to the prosecutor, the message reads:
(s) Ending an RPG (Rocket Propelled Handle) or Stinger, we know what we can do…
(Trump) is not good for Ukraine.
Routh asked if he could ship the purchase and explained, “We need equipment to prevent Trump from being selected.”
The two then replied, “It is impossible to go to the local store for such items. But you are lost and destroyed every day, so you are in war. Do you think Trump is good for Ukraine?” The two continue to discuss the possibility that Rous would secure a rocket or missile launcher, and Rous sends his companions an image of President Trump's plane, writing, “Trump's plane, he boarded every day.”
The evidence invites countless questions about what the Ukrainian government knew and when it came to it.
Written by Donald Trump Jr. on X:
If you think it's a bad thing that Ukraine said they never thanked us for everything the US did for them, then the fact that our sociopaths literally tried to buy arms from them did not say they tried to buy arms from them to assassinate my father. Why is it? ! ?
“Did Zelenskyy know this?” West Virginia GOP candidate Derrick Evans wrote:
Did Zelensky support this for the same reasons as Rous, knowing that Trump would not continue to send billions of dollars to Ukraine?
Alias, arrested
Prosecutors also present evidence that Routh used the alias “Bryan Wilson” when camping at a truck stop and scouting the golf course and Palm Beach International Airport.
The evidence also shows he called him “John White” in August to buy a Burner phone, prosecutors say.
Federal charges against Routh allegedly he had been waiting for Trump for 12 hours on the golf course, before shooting the 78-year-old president. A Secret Service agent finds a rifle and is fired by someone who claims the prosecutor is Rous.
Rous escapes from the scene and Martin County Sheriff's deputies catch him on Interstate 95 and arrest him. He was caught with a scoped SKS rifle.
Routh had a long criminal history before being charged with attempting to assassinate Trump. His crimes include possession of weapons of mass destruction that prosecutors use as evidence of his preparation for killing Trump.
