When questioned by New American editor-in-chief Alex Newman at the United Nations Future Summit, World Bank Group President Ajay Banga explained that innovations like “the internet and GPS” were only possible because of government investment.
Neumann asked how much work the World Bank was doing to help poor countries understand the free market principles that have made them rich, suggesting that freedom and economic education are the more sustainable and moral option for helping poor countries.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, who was on a panel to speak about the World Bank's Low-Income Countries Fund, simply dodged Vanga's question by replying, “I agree,” to laughter from the press room.
