That's why it's important that lawmakers don't overlook decentralized AI when they start regulating AI. Given that the broader AI industry is exploding and dominated by the world's biggest companies, perhaps it's human nature to ignore it. They are acquiring startups, driving advancements, and launching new products at a breakneck pace. There's nothing wrong with Microsoft, Meta, Alphabet, and others investing heavily in this industry, but lawmakers need to create space for researchers, entrepreneurs, and developers to grow as well. This requires, among other things, to remain vigilant about antitrust laws and to ensure that government-supported research and development funds do not benefit only large corporations.
