President Donald Trump has removed Mike Waltz from his post as national security adviser in the first major cabinet shake of his second term.
The president nominated the waltz for the UN ambassador, appointed Secretary of State Marco Rubio as interim national security adviser until he finds someone to fill in the position permanently. Members of the presidential cabinet who held both positions were Henry Kissinger between Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford administrations. (That's if they are the only similarities that Rubio and Kissinger share for the benefit of all Americans.)
According to an April 16 New York Times article, Waltz was one of the members of the Trigger Happy Cabinet who supported a military attack on Iran over its ongoing attempts at diplomatic solutions to the nuclear dilemma.
SignalGate
The waltz was also at the heart of Signalgate, a pseudo scandal that erupted on March 24th. He was in charge of organizing a signal group chat about the US military strike in the Houssis, Yemen. The conversation included Vice President of Trump, Vice President of Vice President of the Trump administration, Pete Hegses, Director of National Intelligence Director John Ratcliffe, and Department of Defense employee Tom Fitton. It also included Atlantic Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg, an unnecessary eavesdropper.
The Waltz took responsibility. He unintentionally added Goldberg to the chat, stating that the mistake was due to a technical error. Goldberg, as expected, has published news stories about the ordeal, leading to a full transcription of conversations between Trump's cabinet members. And, as expected, mainstream media has created many embarrassing ordeals. They constantly blasted headlines about it, implying that it proved the administration was incompetent. Media also suggested that the scandal would pose a threat to national security. “It's a security breach and screw-in that even Hollywood producers don't recall.” “The important legislation classified and why experts say signal chats raise concerns,” the Washington Post headline on March 25th said. The Guardian went until it suggested that the fake pass had made the US vulnerable to all its popular boogeymen. “The breaking news sent on March 18th stated that Russian hackers can access the message because Trump officials are now disappointed,” the left-wing British outlet declared.
The Atlantic said that, among the most enthusiastic media organs within the tank due to its deep conditions, Chat revealed the war plan. But the administration's waltz and others said it wasn't. It didn't include information on location, sources or methods, they said. “There are no war plans,” Waltz said in a tweet on March 26th.
Room connection
According to CBC News, Trump will also remove Waltz's deputy Alex Wong from the White House post. Right-wing influencer Laura Rumer claimed Wong was at the heart of the Signal Gate and celebrated his expulsion. Rumer claims Wong did the legwork that set up the chat, despite the Waltz being responsible. Rumer's April 2nd visit to the White House caused popular hysteria among mainstream media outlets. She urged the president to drive away staff who, according to her, who were not loyal to the Magazine agenda.
Shortly after Signalgate broke, Loomer published an X post about why Trump should fire the won. Wong is married to Attorney Candice Chiu Wong, a Chinese woman who is one of the leading lawyers involved in the prosecution of the J6ers. Worse, Lommer added:
Alex Wong worked for Covington & Burling, one of the law firms where President Trump recently stripped of his security clearance and ended all government contracts through an executive order on February 25, 2025. Why is there a Chinese deputy national security adviser who married a Chinese US lawyer who worked for Obama and Biden and indicted the J6ers after the stolen election in 2020?
Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon stated why the Trump administration used signals in place of official government channels to prevent leaks from deep statistics.
Unpopular picks
Waltz is a former Army Green Beret who served two terms as Florida representative before joining the Trump administration. He was one of Trump's most unpopular cabinet picks. He voted to re-authorize American warrantless spies through FISA and dump the cash pile into Ukraine by inevitable losses to Russia and pulling out US troops from Syria. During his time in Congress, Waltz made a cumulative score of 67% on the TNA's freedom index disastrous.
According to independent journalist Glenn Greenwald, the waltz is a war hawk “completely in line with the worst prongs of the bipartisan DC consensus.” The Times said some of Trump's advisors saw him the same way. “Most of Trump's advisers already viewed him as a Hawkish and were able to work for the president, who campaigned as a skeptic of American intervention, reaching a nuclear deal with Iran and eager to normalize ties with Russia.”
Perhaps he is not so important as the UN ambassador for the Economic and Social Issues Counselor (ECOSOC) of the US mission to UN Edward Hartney, and the UN ambassador who recently condemned Agenda 2030.
Trump put a happy spin on the waltz removal. He said:
We are pleased to announce that Mike Waltz will be nominated as the United Nations' next US ambassador. Since I was uniformed on the battlefield, in Congress and as my national security adviser, Mike Waltz has worked hard to put our nation's interests first. I know he will do the same in his new role. Interim, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will serve as national security adviser while continuing his strong leadership at the Department of State.
Waltz replied with X, “I am deeply honored to continue my service to President Trump and our great nation.”
