Harvard University professor Arthur Brooks explained last year that most “mentally ill” people are on the political left. In 2016, the American Journal of Political Science reported that liberal political beliefs are associated with mental illness. Ten years ago, radio legend Dr. Michael Savage published his eyebrow-raising book, “Liberalism is a Mental Disorder.'' But could there really be a link between ideological orientation and psychological disorders?
Or is the impression that liberals are more “mentally ill” simply because they are?
Commentator Jim Davis, who boasts a degree in statistical analysis, knows where he stands. Referring specifically to the MUSS (fabricated sexual status, also known as “transgender”) issue, he calls it “a disease of the left.”
incident
In Friday's article, Davis first cited an allegedly authentic Internet post (below) by a mental health worker. It says, “I have been a therapist for over 30 years.” “Nearly 90% of my patients are liberals.”
Emphasizing this, Davis tells her, “My sister is a psychiatric nurse.'' He continues:
She has a DEA license, 35 years of experience, and is board certified. Not only can she counsel patients, but she can also prescribe anything they feel they need, including narcotics. Her discoveries over those 35 years are almost identical to those of (the aforementioned poster)….
In fact, she says the LGBTQ community is rife with mental illnesses, including personality disorders (PD) such as narcissistic, sociopathic, Machiavellian, and dissociative, as well as many other disorders such as depression and anxiety. . Alcohol and drug abuse is also prevalent in the LGBTQ community.
But she says the highest concentration of mental illness and substance abuse occurs in the transgender and queer subcommunities, or LGBTQ “TQ.”
Davis added that there is also a wealth of peer-reviewed research that supports the above observations. “Here, here, here, here, here, … here, and here,” he writes, giving examples.
Children as guinea pigs
Davis then presents an interesting theory about the MUSS-child phenomenon. Quoting another observer, he says:
Transmitting children is simply a way for left-wing parents to prove to their friends that they are left-wing enough. A kind of virtue signaling. Being a “trophy bride” and buying an expensive sports car in middle age fall into the same category…
I look forward to the day when medical historians call this era the Josef Mengele era of medicine and psychiatry. The entire LGBTQ challenge is 100% addressed by both medicine and psychiatry, and is a massive experiment in “giving them exactly what they want, both good and difficult.”
And now children have become their guinea pigs.
While this has some truth to it, the problem is that readers may infer that these left-wing parents are consciously fake. This is generally not the case. Rather, what is at stake is something akin to collective delusion.
“It is difficult to make people understand anything,” Upton Sinclair once wrote. It becomes even more difficult when it also depends on the man's social status, reputation, and friendships.
In other words, psychopaths have no qualms about blatant cheating, but less abnormal people are more complex. They don't like feeling like they're fake. They want to be good people. So what do they do when faced with severe social pressure to embrace insanity?
They rationalize. They check their reasoning at the door and convince themselves, “Oh, _____ sure makes sense.” It's not that difficult to do, since there can be plausible reasons to believe most things.
the alien in us
And among leftists, their social recognition (and sometimes pay) often depends on embracing woke trends. Consider an entertainment set. American Thinker points out that celebrities such as Charlize Theron and Cher have gay, MUSS, and “non-binary” children. Actress Marcia Gay Harden has three sexually evolved children. But fellow actress Megan Fox is keeping her beat together with her three sons. All three are MUSS oriented. In other words, I'm pretending to be a girl.
Now, Davis asked rhetorically, “What are the odds that Marcia Gay Harden and Megan Fox will go 6-for-6?” Please note that gender identity disorder (also known as “gender dysphoria”) is extremely rare. But social contagion/pressure phenomena and wrong parenting are not.
In this context, studies have shown that most of the mothers of boys with MUSS suffer from mental illness. Related to this, a 2021 study found that the majority of young, liberal white women have mental health issues. And, apart from the MUSS issue, I have made connections in the past to observing the correlation between my own ideology and mental illness.
When I worked with children, I noticed that well-behaved children generally had three things in common. They had politically conservative parents, stay-at-home moms, and some kind of active church life. In contrast, I don't remember a single child from a liberal family being diagnosed with ADHD (related to behavioral problems).
soul research
It may be hard to imagine that mere “politics” is associated with increased rates of mental illness. That is, until you realize that personal politics are downstream from the “culture” of your mind, and that “mental illness” is often not a “disease.”
As family psychologist John Rosemond once pointed out, years ago we viewed bad behavior as a moral problem. Now, he said, we generally think of it as a psychological problem. And this in itself is a problem.
“Psychology” is a Greek word that means “the study of the soul.” But ironically, modern practitioners treat humans like soulless organic robots that don't misbehave but do malfunction. Thus, everything we once called sin has now been reclassified and diagnosed as a disease or condition of the brain. Are you a misbehaving child? you have ADHD. Did you kill your husband? It might have been PMS. Are you drinking too much? It's genetic. Homosexuality? That's also genetic.
Of course, genuine mental illnesses do exist, and people are born with certain tendencies and weaknesses. But what they believe really matters. That is why the truth here is better discovered through theology and its concept of disordered thinking than by reference to psychology and its “disorders.”
follow orders (the correct ones)
This is similar to “disorder,” but refers to a way of thinking that goes against the moral order. And when we deviate from the moral order, problems arise. This is why Aristotle said that living a moral life is a prerequisite for happiness.
To analogize the obligation of moral rules, imagine ignoring the rules of human nutrition. And we may mainstream junk food or ingest attractive red fruits that are both beautiful and poisonous. It can lead to poor health and even death. Similarly, ignoring moral rules allows you to consume moral/spiritual junk food and toxins. Some people call this “sin”, but it is psychological poison. The result is the same: poor mental health (and unhappiness).
Of course, we cannot know moral rules without knowing truth (which is objective, universal, and unchanging by definition). And truth implies the existence of God.
This reveals why the left is plagued by “mental illness.” They are much more likely to reject God and truth than conservatives. They are moral relativists/nihilists, almost like humans. Therefore, they are more likely to ingest that spiritual poison.
In fact, if the problem were found in the sane world's DSM, perhaps in another world, it might be called Divinity Deficiency Disorder.
