Early Wednesday morning, a man drove his pickup truck into a dense crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, and later that day a Tesla Cybertruck exploded in front of the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas.
According to the FBI, the suspect in the New Orleans attack is 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar. He is suspected of plowing his car into a crowd around 3:15 a.m., killing 10 people and injuring dozens more.
“After punching the crowd, he exited his vehicle and fired at local police,” the FBI said in a statement. “Law enforcement returned fire and the subject was pronounced dead at the scene. Two law enforcement officers were injured and transported to a local hospital.” The FBI said Jabbar was a U.S. citizen from Texas. He said that. Jabbar was a real estate agent.
Jabbar, a U.S. Army veteran, had an ISIS flag flying on the back of his rented Ford F-150 when he drove into the crowd. The FBI is “working to determine the subject's potential connections or ties to terrorist organizations.” According to the New York Times, New Orleans FBI Special Agent in Charge Alecia Duncan confirmed in a press conference that two IEDs had been found and destroyed.
The Associated Press obtained a state police bulletin circulated among law enforcement agencies that said surveillance footage showed three men and a woman placing one of several explosive devices. It was reported that it had been obtained.
