The partnership between Privado ID and Telefonica Tech aims to accelerate the adoption of compliant, privacy-focused digital IDs for users in the European Union. The partnership comes as the EU prepares for its landmark regulation on digital IDs, elDAS2.
Telefonica Tech, the digital business unit of Spanish telecommunications giant Telefonica Group, is teaming up with Privado ID to drive the adoption of privacy technologies and digital IDs across the European Union.
Privado ID (formerly Polygon ID) will leverage Telefónica Tech’s managed blockchain service, TrustOS, to enhance the provision of verifiable credentials, the companies said in a press release.
“We are pleased to integrate Privado ID technology into our TrustOS platform and accelerate the adoption of digital identity solutions that ensure strict compliance with eIDAS2 requirements,” said José Luis Núñez, Global Head of Blockchain and Web3 at Telefónica Tech.
Focus on EU digital ID market
The strategic partnership comes as the European Union prepares for the European Digital Identity Regulation (elDAS2), which provides for the implementation of guidelines that will require EU countries to provide digital identity wallets to their citizens.
eIDAS2 aims to create a standardized framework that allows EU citizens, residents and nationals to benefit from electronic ID. It also implies the introduction of compliant ID solutions, and this is the market that Telefónica Tech and Privado ID are focusing on with this partnership.
“Ensuring large enterprises can integrate innovative technologies such as our leading zero-knowledge proof-based digital identity platform is key to the widespread adoption of self-sovereign identity,” said David Schwartz, CEO of Privado ID.
Targeted use cases include certification, digital national ID, e-signature solutions, and privacy-preserving loyalty programs.
