Mainstream media, taken together, may be the single most dangerous global enemy our country faces. After all, it was once the sole means of communication for virtually all Americans, and still serves that function for many. The same goes for computers. Garbage in, garbage out. And this lament is essentially what commentator Mike McDaniel put it in other words in a recent article.
“Certainly, the media is not entirely responsible for the sad state of affairs in our representative republic,” he wrote. But “their contribution to our current suffering is incalculable and devastating.”
Oh, and trash masquerading as news is also a problem. Elon Musk said this on X Monday.
A very common mistake is believing that legacy media only lies about areas that they understand well.
No, they lie about everything.
When a lie is a double-edged sword
However, in rare cases, mainstream media (MM) may pick up on it. This happened, for example, when CNN, the Washington Post, and NBC had to pay large libel settlements to Covington's Catholic former student Nick Sandmann. And now, clearly, CNN has once again gotten too close to the sun of practical fluctuations. McDaniel reports:
Normally, the media is largely immune to lawsuits because they are reckless and do a good job of disguising D/S/C (Democratic/Socialist/Communist) opinions as news, but surprisingly, Tapper and CNN He is facing a defamation lawsuit filed by Army veteran Zachary Young. Tapper's false claims about Young and his efforts to rescue innocent people from Joe Biden's Afghanistan debacle wiped out Young's career as a private security guard. The case has been allowed to proceed and has entered the deposition stage. Tapper and CNN are interfering….
McDaniel then quotes the Washington Free Beacon:
According to court documents obtained by the Media Research Center, Tapper appeared at the affidavit Wednesday along with attorney for veteran Zachary Young. (A) Young's attorney's account of the ordeal says that for “less than two hours,” CNN “instructed Tapper not to answer more than 30 questions.” As a result, Young's lawyers were unable to gather “basic financial information” about Tapper's salary and “the finances of CNN and his show.”
Mr. Tapper claimed ignorance of CNN's finances, but the judge in the case, William Scott Henry, rejected that claim. As McDaniel points out, overpaid media workers like Tapper would be well aware of their employer's finances. After all, you will need this information when negotiating a contract.
take no prisoners
But things get even worse for CNN. Young is likely seeking more than $1 billion in damages (yes, with a “b”) and, unlike Sandman, has no intention of settling. This means the trial, scheduled for January, is likely to proceed. McDaniel agrees that the problems with this case are clear. Beacon again:
The segment, which Tapper claimed, names Young's security company Nemex Enterprises, which evacuated people from Afghanistan during the Biden-Harris administration's chaotic 2021 withdrawal. The initiative was explained in detail. It suggested Young was operating within an illegal “black market” and exploiting “desperate Afghans”. Before the segment aired, CNN national security correspondent Alex Marquardt expressed a desire to “nail this Zachary Young player,” while senior editor Fuzz Hogan called Young “that guy.” He is said to have called him a person.
Moreover, CNN is tacitly admitting its mistake, apologizing, and doing damage control. Beacon again:
CNN has already removed the term “black market” from the online version of the segment, acknowledged that Young had not broken any laws, and issued an on-air apology. For Young, that's not enough. Lawyers for the veteran claim the segment irreparably damaged his reputation and caused tens of millions of dollars in business losses.
In other words, CNN's guilt seems like a possible foregone conclusion. The only question at stake may be what damages are covered.
Mado's Mad Row
However, there is one thing CNN can be happy about. That is, if misery truly loves one's fellow man. McDaniel also writes:
D/S/C's propaganda media arm is in increasing trouble. Micah and Joe crawled to Mar-a-Lago to kiss Donald Trump's ring, and ratings dropped 16% in that moment. Comcast is cutting MSNBC, CNBC, and USA, and D/S/C talking heads like Rachel Maddow, who get paid big bucks for their weekly shows, are panicking. Maddow and others are filing their own lawsuits.
According to the New York Post,
A defamation lawsuit against NBCUniversal comes after a Georgia judge ruled that journalists including Rachel Maddow, Nicole Wallace and Chris Hayes were “verifiable” about doctors who allegedly performed “mass hysterectomies” on detainees at ICE centers. He is scheduled to go to trial after the court ruled that he had reported a false allegation.
MSNBC and NBC journalists reported 39 false claims about a doctor they called a “uterine collector” based on a whistleblower complaint from a nurse named Dawn Wooten who worked at the facility. has been accused of.
The Post also reported that the doctor, gynecologist Dr. Mahendra Amin, is “seeking $30 million.” This is “reportedly equivalent to Mr. Maddow's annual salary.”
media death spiral
As I wrote years ago, MM is in a death spiral. Consider the backlash to Micah and Joe's Trump meeting. It is rational and good business for media personnel to want to “talk to the other side,” even if driven purely by self-interest. However, this would incur the ire of intolerant ideologues, who, through MM's own actions, now represent a large portion of the audience.
In other words, MM long ago became increasingly left-wing, thereby alienating many rational Americans. This made the rest of the audience more left-wing, which encouraged them to become even more liberal to satisfy MM. This alienated more rational viewers/readers and pushed the audience even further to the left. And then…well, you know. As this process continued, MM became just a left-wing echo chamber.
And of course, what will happen when such media finally take a centrist attitude (for example, when meeting with Orangeman)? The echo chamber dwellers will revolt and run away like cockroaches when the kitchen light comes on.
Then there's another problem. Why don't CNN and other MMs learn from debacles like Nick Sandman?
Because, like the proverbial scorpion stinging a frog, they cannot help themselves. That's what a liar is. And if you lie habitually, it's only a matter of time before you inadvertently tell a practical lie.
The good news is that with alternative media like podcasts and New American, more and more Americans are learning the truth and understanding who the liars are. And future management of MAGA by the executive branch should also reduce censorship over the next four years. This means that maybe, just maybe, alternative media can finally become what it should be: mainstream.
