The suspect police accuse of setting a woman on fire as she slept on a New York subway train is an illegal immigrant from Guatemala.
And to make matters worse, the New York Post revealed that he was deported under the Trump administration, but has since crossed the border again. He then traveled to New York for free room and board courtesy of the city's taxpayers.
A horrifying video posted on X showed a woman bursting into flames. And Gov. Kathy Hochul, in a dark comment about how out of touch New York State's far-left Democrats are, told X's followers how safe the city's subways are…after a woman was murdered About 8 hours later.
To make matters worse, the woman was burned alive and a passerby recorded her death on her phone.
(Note: The video in the tweet below is extremely disturbing.)
murder case
Police identified Sebastian Zapeta Calil, 33, an illegal Guatemalan alien, as the woman's killer.
They responded to a call about a fire at the Coney Island-Stilwell Avenue subway station around 7:30 a.m. Sunday, the newspaper said.
“She was found with a liquor bottle wrapped around her, but it was not immediately clear whether that was involved in the fire,” the paper quoted a police source as saying. “Investigators believe the woman was asleep when a man sitting across from her got up, walked past her and threw a match, setting her on fire,” a source told the Post. Ta.
Later, Zapeta-Khalil allegedly set the woman on fire with a lighter. He then watched the flames flare up until the victim left.
The paper also revealed that he crossed the Arizona border in 2018 but was quickly deported. He then entered the country illegally again and landed in New York.
“By April 2023, he was staying at the Days Inn Hotel on 36th Street, which had been converted into an immigrant shelter, the first of four tax-funded facilities in the city. ,” the Post reported.
Officials say he gave the address of the Randall Island shelter when he was issued a traffic ticket in 2023.
Hochul: The subway is fine!
The Post ran two articles about the murder before writing that the subway was safer because of Hochul's tough-on-crime policies.
Episode 1 was updated at 14:07. Another updated at 2:24 p.m.
“In March, I took action to make the subway safer for the millions of people who ride trains every day,” Hochul wrote at 3:40 p.m.
Since deploying @NationalGuardNY to support @NYPDnews and @MTA safety efforts and installing cameras in every subway car, crime is down and ridership is up.
Hochul also had the courage to post a video of himself riding the subway.
“No one will help her”
Police have not identified the victim, but multiple X and her Facebook account say she is 29-year-old Amelia Carter. Her anger exploded when she saw someone who appeared to be a police officer walking calmly next to her as she was being burned alive. Still other photos show the suspect fanning the flames as people look on.
“She's burning alive and no one is helping her. Instead people are using their phones to take videos,” wrote X user Jack Line. “What a sick society we have.”
Another user wrote: “Outraged at the inaction of the police officers who stood by silently as Amelia Carter's body was set on fire and refused to intervene or seek help despite a clear opportunity to intervene.” .
“Who was that cop who walked past Amelia Carter being burned alive on the subway the other day?” a third wrote.
Why didn't he try to put out the fire and call for help? Why did he keep walking? You need to identify him and answer these questions. he needs to take responsibility.
A reader's note explains that the most widely used image in X is not of Carter. The second image shows the biography of a doctoral student at the University of Pennsylvania named Amelia Carter. According to the biography:
Carter earned a master's degree in environmental humanities from the University of Utah in 2023, exploring the conflation of classes and writing about Fire Island, a historically LGBTQ-friendly barrier island and approximately 1,000-foot island in the United States. Forty miles east of the largest city, she (dis)constructs a queer ecology while shifting beach sand by investigating private property systems and National Park Service place-making projects along the coast. ”
Zapeta-Khalil is charged with first- and second-degree murder and arson, the newspaper said.
A person familiar with the matter told the newspaper that a detention motion against him was likely.
Unfortunately, New York has abolished the death penalty. This means that if an illegal alien is sentenced to life in prison, taxpayers will have to pay to support him.
