Sony's Soneium has partnered with Transak for a fiat on-ramp to Ethereum Layer 2. Gamers can buy and trade NFTs with traditional payment methods on Soneium. The partnership aims to accelerate blockchain adoption in the gaming and entertainment sector.
Sony Block Solutions Labs, the innovation arm of the recently launched Soneium blockchain, has announced a strategic partnership with Transak, a leading Web3 payments infrastructure provider.
The collaboration aims to simplify the onboarding process for mainstream users onto the Soneium blockchain, an Ethereum Layer 2 network, by enabling the use of traditional payment methods.
Empowering gamers and developers
The partnership will have a major impact on the gaming industry, which is already familiar with digital assets and in-game currencies.
By integrating Transak's payment solutions, gamers will be able to purchase, transfer and trade in-game assets and NFTs using traditional fiat currency. This seamless integration is expected to drive greater adoption of blockchain technology within the gaming community and bring new monetization opportunities to both developers and players.
In a press release announcing the partnership, Transac co-founder and CEO Sami Start emphasized the importance of the partnership, saying it underscores the company's commitment to “bridge the gap between Web2 and Web3, enhancing user experience and supporting industries like gaming and entertainment with innovative solutions that drive digital transformation.”
A step towards wider adoption of Soneium
Developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs, Soneium is built on the Op Stack and is designed to support consumer applications. The network is a joint venture between Sony Group Corporation and Startale Labs, and includes notable early experimenters such as Circle, Optimism, Alchemy, The Graph, Chainlink, and Astar Network.
Highlighting the potential of the partnership, Sota Watanabe, Director of Sony Block Solutions Lab, said Transak's purpose-built solutions for multiple industries will enable developers to build groundbreaking projects on Soneium.
Transak operates in 160 countries and supports over 350 applications. This partnership bridges the gap between traditional finance and blockchain technology, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the gaming and entertainment industry.
