David Sacks estimated that the US government owns around 200,000 Bitcoins.
US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order establishing strategic Bitcoin reserves and digital asset stockpile.
White House AI and Crypto Czar David Sacks posted a message on X on March 7th, highlighting the news. He said:
“This reserve will be capitalized with federal-owned Bitcoin, which has been confiscated as part of a criminal or civil assets forfeiture procedure. This means that taxpayers will not be charged one-for-cost.”
Sacks estimated that the US government owns around 200,000 bitcoins. “But there was never a full audit,” Sachs added.
“The US does not sell Bitcoin deposited in the reserve. It is held as a valuable store. The reserve is like Digital Fort Knox, a cryptocurrency often referred to as “digital gold,” Sacks said.
Yesterday, Sacks said that over the past decade, the federal government had sold around 195,000 bitcoin for $366 million. Today, that number is worth around $17 billion. According to Sacks, this lack of “long-term strategy” on Bitcoin is home to billions of American taxpayers.

Digital Asset Stockpiling
In addition to strategic Bitcoin reserves, Trump's executive order establishes a stockpile of digital assets.
Sacks noted that this consists of non-Bitcoin digital assets that have been confiscated in criminal or civil lawsuits.
“The government will not acquire additional assets in the stockpile beyond what was obtained through the forfeiture proceedings,” he added.
Earlier this month, Trump posted about the true society that crypto sanctuaries retain Cardano, XRP and Solana. He later added that Bitcoin and Ethereum “will become the centre of the reserve.”
Solana Labs co-founder and CEO Anatoly Yakovenko said he doesn't like the spare when he heard that Solana would be added to Crypto Reserve. Posting on X, he added: “If you want to fail decentralization, you're in charge of the government.”
My spare preference order
1. There are no spares. This is because if you want to fail decentralization, you will be in charge of the government.
2.
3. Or, if you want a reserve, objectively…based on https://t.co/lfyxcierng
