Both President Biden and President-elect Trump have praised the ceasefire.
According to Biden,
This is the ceasefire agreement that I introduced last spring. Today, Hamas and Israel agreed to their ceasefire agreement. And as those of you who have followed the negotiations can attest, the path to ending the war was not easy. I've worked in foreign policy for decades. This is one of the toughest negotiations I have ever experienced.
President Trump posted on TRUTH social:
As FOX News Digital noted, “Sources told FOX News Digital that a weekend meeting between Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Trump's incoming Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, reportedly led to a breakthrough. Mr. Witkoff's assurances reportedly persuaded Prime Minister Netanyahu to accept the deal, despite threats from right-wing parties to leave the coalition if it passed.
Humanitarian aid will also be introduced to Gaza during this period, and Israel is preparing for various contingencies to maintain stability and ensure the success of the operation.
