FTX's former technology chief has asked a judge to waive his prison sentence, according to his attorney.
According to Bloomberg, Nishad Singh's lawyers filed a memo with a federal judge in Manhattan saying his role in the collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange was limited, citing “the exemplary life he seeks to lead.” argued that he deserved a lighter sentence.
“His circumstances are unusual in every respect relevant to sentencing: his personal history and characteristics, his role in the crimes he is charged with, his speed of cooperation, his response to the collapse of FTX, and how he has lived his life since then. ,” his lawyer wrote.
They also described him as an “unusually selfless person” and that his role was “far more limited than the other defendants.”
In February 2023, Singh was charged with withdrawing $6 million in customer funds from FTX to Alameda Research. He pleaded guilty to six criminal charges, including conspiracy to commit fraud and money laundering.
Singh also testified in October against his former boss and CEO of FTX, Sam Bankman Fried.
Mr. Bankman Freed was convicted of fraud and conspiracy and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison was sentenced to 24 months in prison in September. Former FTX executive Ryan Salame was sentenced to 90 months in prison in May.
Singh is scheduled to be sentenced on October 30th.
