The New York Post published a news article claiming that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had seized a phone and electronic devices from Polymarket's CEO.
Sources reportedly see this as political retaliation after the betting market platform predicted the 2024 US election.
Federal agents have reportedly seized the cellphone and electronic devices of Polymarket CEO Shane Coplan.
On Nov. 13, the New York Post reported that the FBI seized Mr. Coplan's cell phone early Wednesday morning, and officials said FBI agents searched the Polymarket CEO's home at 6 a.m. According to news from the New York Post, Coplan was at her SoHo home when law enforcement officers seized the equipment.
The New York newspaper cited sources as saying the FBI took his belongings but did not take Polimarket CEO into custody. Mr. Koplan also had not made any public comments on the report at the time of writing. But the Post alleges political retaliation.
The New York Post reported, citing unnamed sources, that “the government is likely seeking to accuse Polymarket of manipulating the market and manipulating polls in President Trump's favor.”
The FBI raid and seizure of items came just a week after gambling markets accurately predicted Donald Trump's victory in the presidential election.
The president-elect defeated Democrat Kamala Harris and began assembling his cabinet and team, including creating the Department of Government Efficiency, headed by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.
