The upgrade, officially called EIP-7781, also enhances the blockchain's ability to handle BLOBs, which are specialized data storage chambers used by associated Layer 2 networks to hide transaction records. This change effectively increases the number of blobs per block from 6 to 9, giving more space for layer 2 chains like Arbitrum and Optimism to post data to Ethereum.
