Grok, an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot developed with Elon Musk's Tech Ecosystem, is now available on Telegram.
The expansion was officially announced in a March 26 post on X (formerly Twitter) and marks Grok's first significant move beyond the X platform.
Elon Musk said in X:
“I'm Glock now with a telegram.”
According to Grok, the chatbot is only available to telegram users using a premium subscription. Users can start chat by searching “Grokai” on Telegram.
However, features like “Think” and “DeepSearch” are drawn to the X platform or the standalone Grok app.
Telegram reaches 1 billion users
This move occurs when Telegram hits a significant milestone on its user base.
On March 19, Pavel Durov, founder of the social messaging application, shared that Telegram has over 1 billion active users each month. This surge will make it the world's third largest messaging platform after WhatsApp and China's WeChat.
Durov also pointed to an increase in engagement levels. On average, users open the app 21 times a day, spending around 41 minutes each day.
Telegram's finances reflect this growth, with the platform generating $547 million in profits in 2024. He highlights Telegram's independence and steady rise, in contrast to his larger rivals.
According to him:
“In front of us, only whatsapp stands. It's a cheap, watering imitation of telegrams. For years, they tried to copy us while burning us with lobbying and PR. They failed. They failed.
AIS GO Multi-Platform
Grok's expansion is part of a broad trend among AI companies. More chatbots are forking from the original platform to capture new markets.
In the second half of 2024, Openai introduced ChatGpt to WhatsApp. This includes audio support lines for North America. The move has made it a direct competition with Meta's own AI assistant.
These shifts indicate that AI races are no longer tied to the platform. Key developers are now aiming to incorporate smart assistants into their daily apps, becoming the default AI layer for messaging, search and conversations.
