Democratic political strategist James Carville once again blamed the Democratic Party on November 5 for its crushing loss to President-elect Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
The former congressman said on Joe Scarborough's “Morning Joe” show that the party has lost people. They are no longer willing to vote for the party, largely because of the problems Carville highlighted in March. The party has become feminized, with too many preachy women.
But Mr Carville has been calling on the party to end its radical far-left messages since at least 2022.
Diagnosis: The party of petticoat tyrants is not attractive to ordinary men.
“I have a problem with men.”
Scarborough asked Carville an obvious question: What exactly happened on November 5th?
Carville recalled an interview he gave with Maureen Dowd of the New York Times in March.
“Lately, he has been obsessed with Biden bleeding black male voters,” Dowd wrote.
“My suspicion is that there are too many preachy women” dominating his party's culture. “'Don't drink beer. Don't watch football. Don't eat hamburgers. This isn't good for you.' The message is 'Everything you're doing is destroying the planet.' Too feminine. Must eat peas. ”
“NPR (National Public Radio) is my go-to place to listen to Democratic elites talk. The whole story is about how women, and women of color, will decide this election. So I say, “Well, 48 percent of people who vote are men.'' May I have some consideration? ”
But that wasn't the only thing Carville warned Democrats about. He warned in April that the party was losing young people.
“The numbers among young voters, especially young black people, are frightening,” he said. “Young Latinos, especially men. We're not kicking them out, we're leaving them in droves.”
Carville's message was consistent. And that is still the case. After Trump's victory, he raged that identity politics should stop.
He told Democrats: “Justify what you've done, justify what you've done wrong, and tell us what you're going to change.” There is no value in what you have done. Please think about that carefully. ”
But Carville wasn't done yet.
And all you Washington-based Democrats… go to a wine and cheese party and talk about how misogynistic (this country) is, get out of Washington, and work on your 2026 campaign. , do penance to atone for your sins. Arrogance and stupidity… Well, we're going to say we told you so. I told you this identity shit is a disaster. We told you to get out of the public safety issue. I didn't do that… I told him to differentiate himself from Biden. I didn't.
Carville repeated the message to Scarborough, minus the blue words. The men are running away from the party.
“Back in March, I said I thought there were 'too many preachy women' in the Democratic campaign culture,” he said. “Well, they all had complicity. Did you see the male votes they got in November?”
“First of all, we have a huge problem with men. I'm not just talking about white men like you and me,” he told Scarborough.
I'm talking about men as a whole, so we need to address that. And we don't need to be vilified by liberal advocacy groups in Washington or NPR.
We have to say that we have a men's problem and we need to address it. And I think it can be done. …(W)e has lost a lot of status in men and there is no need to sweep these things under the rug. We need to expose them, talk about it, and discuss it.
Carville said the party should have emphasized raising the minimum wage to $15 and pushed for higher taxes on people making more than $400,000 a year. He also advocated subsidies for young people to buy homes.
Most Democrats are not progressive
But Carville has been preaching that message for two years.
In 2022, far-left “progressives” attack moderate Sen. Joe Manchin in West Virginia (a state that Trump won by 39 points in 2020 and 42 points on November 5). At the time, Carville explained to the Vox website how small the “progressive” force in the state was. The party is.
“But some of the people making such a fuss about Manchin can’t look straight at political reality,” Carville said.
Six percent of adults in this country identify themselves as “progressive.” Only 11 to 12 percent of Democrats identify as progressive. So let's go to the middle man and say, 7 or 8 percent of the country agrees with the progressive left. This isn't a terrible argument anymore. People like Manchin are closer to the mainstream than many realize, and pretending otherwise doesn't help the cause.
That's why allowing the party to be led into strange positions such as “defunding the police” and an obsession with “identity politics” will end in disaster, he said.
“Only 11 percent of Democrats are progressive,” Carville said. “That's the smallest part of the party. But the problem is they're making 70 percent of the noise.”
And importantly, they make nearly all of the party's decisions regarding policy.
“We were never able to wash away the stench[of wokeism],” Carville told Dowd after the election. “Defund the police” is “one of the three stupidest words in the English language,” Carville said.
