He took to the stage at a Bitcoin conference in Nashville to talk about how much he loves crypto people. He announced the Bitcoin Strategic Reserve. He promises to free Ross Ulbricht. He's handing out burgers at PubKey in New York City. He founded his own DeFi project, World Liberty Financial, with an insider governance model (what better way to show your crypto loyalty than that?).
Trump is saying and doing everything crypto wants to hear, and as a result, he's amassing millions of dollars in donations. Nagging people come to bat for him as culture warriors of performative hatred. She occupies a political space that could have been occupied had the Biden administration and Harris campaign not been so eager for Warren. Trump is a master of saying what people want him to say, so he's saying all the right things. He fits Krypto's goals perfectly, as his politics are adaptable to any situation and Krypto was in desperate need of a friend.
I confess that all of this makes me personally uncomfortable, not because I have any particular affection for Kamala Harris, but because I have a long-standing relationship with Trump as a friend. Because it has a proven track record. He could easily take a completely opposite view of cryptocurrencies, depending on his preferences, and he does. I worry about cryptocurrencies supporting Trump because I find it hard to believe that Trump shares the principles that attracted me to cryptocurrencies.
