President Joe Biden's reasons for pardoning his son for a full decade of crimes and possible crimes have infuriated two critics who say they have vastly different political views.
Biden said he pardoned Hunter because the case against him was a politically motivated, unfair, and downright despicable “witch hunt.” And it was a hunt that began precisely because Joe Biden was president.
Conservative Megyn Kelly and honest leftist Stephen A. Smith say that argument is like a dog not hunting.
Kelly taunted Biden by telling the audience about her sister's addiction, which left a lasting mark on her life, but something like this would never happen to the Boy Wonder of global commerce.
Smith told Chris Cuomo on NewsNation that Biden simply said he would not allow his son to go to prison and should have left him alone. people will understand. And Trump, he said, is the victim of a crazy prison witch hunt by the far left.
Cuomo himself: Biden should pardon Trump.
Kelly's brutal takedown
Biden said he pardoned his son for a simple reason, arguing that most people facing the same ultimate gun and income tax charges as Hunter don't go to prison. The argument is that the prosecution was political.
“The charges in his case only arose after several of my political opponents in Congress attacked me and incited me to contest my election,” Biden wrote.
A carefully negotiated plea deal agreed to by the Justice Department then unraveled in court, with many political opponents in Congress taking credit for bringing political pressure to the process. Had a plea deal been reached, Hunter's case would have been resolved fairly and reasonably.
No rational person considering the facts of Hunter's case could come to any other conclusion than that Hunter was chosen solely because he is my son, but that is incorrect. Efforts have continued to break Hunter, who has been sober for five and a half years, even in the face of relentless attacks and selective prosecution. In trying to crush Hunter, they tried to crush me too—and there's no reason to believe it will stop here. That's enough.
In fact, the plea deal was rejected because the judge considered it “unusual,” “not standard,” and “different from what I normally see.”
But that inconsequential fact aside, Hunter Biden got away with a decade of self-dealing that enriched the Biden Mafia by about $24 million, its most notable association being Biden and Burisma's influence peddling. He supported the Chinese Reds through planning and his father. Compromise President Obama's White House.
Speaking about her sister's addiction to the highly addictive drug OxyContin, Kelly said her family gave her “a tough period of love and we didn't help her get out of the jam she was in.” ” he explained. The sisters then “found themselves in the throes of criminal law.”
It required a public defender, and although the sisters were kept out of prison, the addiction and its legal consequences “left a permanent mark on her record. You see what happens to people.” said Kelly.
You can't get a job, you can't get a job because it's out there and no one cares that you were an addict, no one cares about the inside story I just told you. I don't care either.
So fuck it, Joe Biden, and your sob story about Hunter Biden, your rich, spoiled presidential kid, and how he got elected. I know I speak for the millions of people who have an addict in their family. Something they can never get out from under, something they are not proud of.
Kelly said Americans have “no sympathy” for Hunter or his father because the latter “made it all possible.” Kelly also said that Joe Biden “used Hunter to line his own pockets.” That's what the emails suggest – 10% of the “big guys” and Tony Bobulinski and others. ”
Bobulinski is a former business partner of Hunter Biden. In an email with Hunter and his associates, he referred to Joe Biden as a “great man.” The email explained how Red China's compensation for Hunter's services would be divided.
Smith: I agree. Sorry, Trump
In his meeting with Cuomo, Smith said the pardon was “disgusting to me,” just as Kelly was disgusted, which is why Biden offered it.
No one will have a problem with him saying, “This is my son, I love him.'' I can't send him to prison and I have the power to avoid it. ” No one would blame him for that. But that's not where he went. ”
So, Smith said, there was nothing wrong with the pardon itself, and “everyone knew, even their grandmother, that he was going to pardon his son.”
As for the alleged “witch hunt” being used as a pretext for the pardon, “wait a minute,” Smith said.
What have you all been doing with Donald Trump all these years? Now we can discuss the legitimacy of the lawsuit against Donald Trump compared to the lawsuits that weren't. It doesn't matter. Importantly, it was clearly politicized.
Smith said leftists were “going after Donald Trump really hard” to prevent him from getting re-elected because they “didn't believe they could beat him.”
Despite all of Trump's charges and convictions, voters said, “He is the person we want.” This is because Trump's victory was an “indictment” of Biden and his policies.
Mr. Smith continued.
For[Joe Biden]to come out and claim this was a witch hunt, when obviously you could claim that's exactly what you were doing with Donald Trump. It seems to me that your cooperation is beyond hypocrisy. And that's what disgusted me.
He called Biden's explanation for the pardon “weak” and “pathetic.”
Mr. Cuomo agreed with Mr. Smith and proposed this surprising idea.
“If I were (Biden), I would pardon Trump,” he said.
“That's exactly what I would do,” Smith replied. “That's enough.”
Instead of pursuing Trump legally, Democrats should spend the next four years closely monitoring everything Trump does and “judging his every move.”
Smith noted that President Gerald Ford's pardon of his disgraced predecessor, Richard Nixon, helped the country move on from Watergate. “It was in the national interest,” Smith said.
Appearing on Fox's Will Cain Show, Smith said woke ideology and identity politics are two reasons for President Trump's victory. “It leans very much toward the progressive left, where we’re talking about transgender issues, culture wars, identity politics, things like that,” he said. “We're tired of all of that. That makes perfect sense to me and I'm fine with that.”
