You'd think the mayor of the sanctuary city who appeared before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday had left his tail between his legs.
Plus, you'd think you'd contacted an attorney. They stubbornly stated that they would not change urban policies that prohibit immigration and cooperation with Customs Enforcement (ICE) to share illegal aliens, or even share information about them, particularly illegal Arien offenders. Therefore, Anna Paulina Luna, a member of Florida's GOP Committee, recommends federal prosecution for having illegals.
If pursued, the prosecution has been around for a long time. Border Emperor Tom Homan and other government officials are threatening in the same way. US Attorney General Pam Bondi has already sued two sanctuaries and has vowed to sue more.
The controversial hearing featured Michelle Woo of Boston, Brandon Johnson of Chicago, Mike Johnston of Denver and Eric Adams of New York City.
In a slightly unnecessary theatre, a Boston Woo appeared with her newborn.
Having vowed to rebellion and rebellion to stop the ice attack, Johnston showed no regrets about the dangerous and destructive policies of his city.
Jim Jordan Nails Johnston
Ohio GOP Representative Jim Jordan, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, nailed Johnston for his members of the Venezuela de Aragua Gang, who was arrested and released on President Joe Biden's standing order in 2023.
“A few months later,[Gonzalez]was arrested in Denver and charged with aggravated assault. On March 11, 2024, he was charged with theft of a car and stole the car,” Jordan told Johnston.
And on March 20, 2024, Gonzalez is charged with felony threats. Six days after that last request, Ice sent detainees, including a warrant of administration. Basically, if you're going to release this bad guy, then the people who steal cars, steal horrible people and attack us all say they're raising their heads for 48 hours. is that so? Does it refresh your memories? …How long have you held him in your custody? ”
“We know we've released him,” Johnston replied.
Certainly, they released him in the prison parking lot. ICE was forced to send six police officers to arrest them. Furthermore, Jordan said,
You gave them an hour's notice. A police officer was assaulted because of your policy.
Continue with Jordan:
They have to arrest him in the parking lot. They take six officers with them. There, one or two people could come to the prison facility and take the man there. But you don't do it that way.
Rep. Lauren Beaubert
“In 2017, Denver passed an ordinance that ensures that city employees who spoke to federal immigration authorities are fired. Among other policies that have led, local and national media calls Denver a sanctuary city.”
She asked the far-away mayor if she wanted to seek a repeal of a state law prohibiting respect for detainees from the ice, given that criminals who were released before Ice was arrested condemned the laws they were released. Detainees are requesting local authorities notify ICE if a criminal foreigner is released.
Johnston said, “I don't think we should change the detainee law.”
In November, Johnston was clear. He overtook the city along with police and “50,000 Denveres” to stop the ice from expelling tortillars.
Anyone who incites, sets, supports, helps, or gives assistance or comforts to American authority or its laws, or who incites, sets up, supports, or provides assistance or comfort will be fined under this title or be imprisoned within ten years. And you can't keep an office under the US.
Rep. Andy Biggs
Bigs of Arizona, a member of the Republican Committee in Arizona, said it was in violation of 8 US Code 1324.
“You are allowing people who have removal orders, people who have legitimate procedures, you are allowing them to stay in the country,” Biggs told city values:
Here, you are violating this law, and you are violating it (referring to the law). You are violating that law. And you have to start to understand what your negligence lies in it. And that's really what we're talking about here.
Hilariously, Johnson of Chicago argued that his city was safer as a sanctuary.
Time for prosecution
So, Luna, who hopes that President Donald Trump's face will be carved into Mount Rushmore, told the quartet he would introduce him to the Justice Department.
“For me, after this series of questions, it is very clear that all of these policies you have (implemented, it is) active and lively and well done in your city.
You all talk about the broken immigration system, but here you will support and bet the whole process.
Luna said their policies would harm illegals and Americans. She doesn't believe the mayor is “a bad person,” but they said, “I'm ideologically misunderstood, and unfortunately based on your reaction, I'm going to… criminally mention you to the Department of Justice.”
She later held an Aloft paper that she said she would go to Attorney General Pam Bondy.
Luna said she wasn't trying to bully the mayor, but she said, “If you continue doing what you're doing, if you don't help anyone, you'll hurt more people.
She recently introduced legislation to reform asylum policies;
Several laws have been violated
Border Emperor Tom Homan repeatedly warned that the mayor would be charged with refusing to cooperate with the ice. So did Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove. Bove also cited 8 US code 1252:
The court will not have jurisdiction to consider a final removal order against a foreigner who is removable for committing a criminal offence.
More issues for the mayor are 8 US code 1373.
Prohibits immigration and naturalization service information regarding an individual's citizenship or immigration status from being legal, illegal or in any way restricts government agencies or staff.
The Department of Justice has sued New York and New York City under sanctuary law. He also sued states in Illinois, Chicago and Cook counties.
