Cardinal Blaze Cupich has come under fire from traditional Catholics for his prayer at this week's Democratic National Convention (DNC).
During a rally that celebrated abortion and vasectomies, and in which he made insensitive comments about “human dignity and freedom” and the “failure to eradicate continuing injustices in our national life,” Cupich never mentioned Jesus.
Right to Life Responds
Archbishop Cupich, 75, has served as archbishop of Chicago since 2014. Members of the congregation have condemned him for speaking at a ceremony honoring one of the most anti-life presidential candidates in U.S. history, said Mary Kate Zander of Right to Life in Illinois.
It is incredibly disheartening to see local church leaders who were once sympathetic to our cause attend such an extremely anti-life, anti-family event as the Democratic National Convention. Candidate Harris-Waltz is the most pro-abortion presidential candidate in American history, and the Illinois Democratic Party in particular is more anti-life than it has ever been. Cardinal Cupich missed a clear opportunity last night to denounce their vile and cruel policies, in effect betraying the vibrant pro-life community he once supported in his state.
Planned Parenthood, an abortion provider, set up a mobile abortion clinic outside the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Democratic candidate Kamala Harris is likely to lean heavily into Republican and Democratic differences on this particular issue. Officially, the Catholic Church is against abortion.
Cupich's remarks included only vague references to life, emphasizing responsibility, unity and a commitment to addressing the nation's injustices, but did not mention abortion at all.
Harrison Butker
His failure to mention Jesus caught the attention of Harrison Butker, the Kansas City Chiefs kicker who drew left-wing ire in May for his defense of traditional values. He also noted that Cupich did not hold up a cross.
What America needs is more of Jesus, not less. We need pastors who are unafraid to lead fearlessly and proclaim that Christ is King. That starts with bishops boldly wearing their pectoral crosses on the outside of their tunics.
Archbishop Viganò
“I am not a Catholic,” said Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, who was excommunicated by the Vatican in July for alleged schism.
The scandalous endorsement of Harris, Waltz and the Radical Left woke agenda by Blaze Cupich and the heretical ultra-progressive Jesuits confirms the blood pact between the Globalist Deep State and the Belgorian Deep Church.
Viganò has been a vocal critic of Pope Francis, calling him by his last name, “Bergoglio.” He has called Francis a “false prophet” and a “tool of the devil.”
Cupich has close ties to Pope Francis and is one of the top papal appointees in the United States.
The prayer at the DNC contrasted with one at the RNC in Milwaukee, where Archbishop Jerome Listecki of Milwaukee prayed “through the Lord Jesus Christ” to help our elected officials and candidates always protect our freedoms, preserve our democracy, and govern fairly.
