Are you a Brit who's outraged that the government is stifling free speech and arresting people for posting things on social media? If so, don't assume you can just drink away your frustrations, because the speech-repressing Labour Party – the US equivalent of the Democrats – has now come up with another brilliant idea.
They want to stifle the age-old traditions of British pub culture.
Ah, this is not because they are worried about health or drunkenness problems, but rather, we are told, for entirely modernist reasons: there are now many Muslims in the UK.
And Muslims don't like alcohol.
The bigger problem is that this is just part of a Western drive towards cultural forgetting, a plan that asks locals to adapt rather than asking newcomers to assimilate.
It's not just alcohol
Explaining the story's background, commentator Andrea Widberg points out that there may be nothing more British than pub culture. In Britain, pubs are not just places to drink, they are also social centres. It is not surprising, then, that the word “pub” is an abbreviation for “public house.” This centrality is also reflected in the arts, with pub scenes almost always appearing in British novels and films.
Widberg makes this point by quoting famous British figures, such as the writer Samuel Johnson, who said, “Nothing yet devised by mankind is more conducive to happiness than a good drinking-house.” But Johnson is part of old England, and he's dead. And the British left seems content to see British culture follow him to the grave.
Slogan: No intoxication, no tax
Which brings us to the new Prohibition story. According to The National Pulse:
Officials at the Home Office, Britain's equivalent of the US Department of Homeland Security, have been instructed to make most social events alcohol-free over concerns about inclusivity. Senior officials want to ensure “most social events are not in pubs” with Muslims, who are banned from drinking, making up a growing proportion of the population, particularly in urban areas such as London, according to sources.
…Other departments, including the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), are similarly encouraging staff to limit alcohol consumption at social events.
Not surprisingly, this merely reflects the general “awakened mind” virus sweeping the West. As Pulse newspaper reported, the intensity of this phenomenon:
“Accepting, understanding and celebrating our many faiths and beliefs, diverse cultures and experiences are key elements in developing policies that allow us to effectively serve and protect our communities,” Daniel Hobbs, director of the Home Office's Immigration and Borders Group, said in a recent document, urging staff to “show solidarity by learning more about the diversity in our department.”
Certainly, when there is “diversity” there is no need for unity.
Widberg is a teetotaler (she just doesn't like alcohol), but she says there's nothing wrong with encouraging employees not to binge drink at work — being drunk doesn't make you more productive — and she stresses that her dislike of alcohol has never prevented her from having a good time at the pub. “It is entirely possible not to drink where others are drinking,” she writes.
Tolerance is a one-way street
But Widberg says that's not what Islam is, adding:
Think back to 2007 when Minnesota taxi drivers refused to give rides to people with closed bottles of alcohol. The city cracked down on them. I'm confident that Muslims in Minnesota would be met with more leniency if they were to use the same tactic in 2024.
London, like Minnesota, is a heavily Muslim city: about 15% of the population self-identified as Muslim in 2021, and the percentage must be much higher now, given that the influx of Muslims has not stopped or slowed down.
Dr Peter Hammond has noted that when the Muslim population exceeds 10%, there is increased proselytising, demands for halal food in markets and public places (Muslims can get halal food, but not alcohol), pressure on the government to enforce Sharia law, and the use of violence to satisfy these demands, even though Muslims actually make up only a small proportion of the population.
The big picture
And it's not just about booze. In 2019, it was reported that two pig farms in Germany had removed pork from their menus, likely out of consideration for Muslims. Just this month, we heard about a French bakery that stopped selling pork for fear of Muslim violence. And then there are the “no-go zones” in Europe. These are Muslim-majority areas where civil law has, to some extent, collapsed and been replaced by Sharia law.
All this is the result of a half-hearted immigration policy. We often hear that demographics are destiny. But in the Western world, there is never any serious discussion about how immigration affects our destiny. In fact, even bringing up the topic can get you yelled at, called names, and denied entry.
But here's how the argument begins (I use a fictional country to quell the emotional reactions that cloud reason): Imagine that millions of people from Bluelandia immigrated to our country. Wouldn't it be reasonable to assume that they would have some influence on our culture? Wouldn't this be even more likely if Bluelanders harbor passionate, absolute beliefs that they consider non-negotiable? And wouldn't their influence be especially profound if we, steeped in multiculturalism, prefer adaptation to assimilation?
This is what is happening to the “Blue Lands” in the Western world. And they wonder why there were anti-immigrant protests and riots in the UK. And why an anti-immigrant populist (what the mainstream media calls the “far right”) is likely to win Germany's next election. (Hint: it's called “democracy.”)
It's human nature
Of course, the outrage at the insanity of Bluelandia is understandable. To repeat Tucker Carlson's analogy, imagine you had four children and then adopted two more. Suppose you neglected your biological children and started giving your adopted ones everything they wanted, including the toys and entertainment opportunities of the “local” children, which they got to enjoy, while your biological children had to do most of the household chores. Would you be surprised if your biological children developed anger, resentment, and hostility toward the newcomers?
Of course, when Brits react in this way, they don't get apologies or hugs – all they get is further evidence that they've been disowned.
