The proposed soft fork is gaining traction from the Bitcoiner community. After research and discussion, if there is enough interest, you will receive a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP) number. From there, we face more debates, security reviews, debates, and more debates. Once a BIP has achieved community consensus (whatever that means), it should be enabled as a soft fork. This mechanism itself is controversial.
