President Joe Biden withdrew from the presidential race today after weeks of pressure from Democrats worried about a major loss to Republican rival Donald Trump.
The decision marks the end of a long and largely destructive political career for Biden, who went from a relatively moderate Democrat and friend of “racists” to a woke leftist obsessed with normalizing sexual perversion and embroiling Americans in the Russia-Ukraine war.
Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor, but the Democratic National Convention is now open to the public.
“Democracy Protected”
Biden announced the decision in a letter sent to X this afternoon.
It began with two falsehoods: “Over the past three and a half years, we have made great progress as a nation” and that today “America has the strongest economy in the world.”
Americans may pay twice as much today for gas and groceries than they did four years ago. And while Biden claims to have “appointed the first African-American woman to the Supreme Court,” he fails to mention that he also appointed the first justice who doesn't know what a woman is.
Biden continued:
Serving as President has been the honor of my life, and while I intended to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and our country for me to step down and focus on fulfilling the duties of my presidency for the remainder of my term.
Biden said he plans to address the American people later this week.
Minutes after announcing his withdrawal from the race, Biden again endorsed Harris for X.
“My first decision as the party's nominee in 2020 was to select Kamala Harris as my vice president,” he wrote.
This was the best decision I have ever made. Today I want to fully endorse and support Kamala to be our party's nominee this year. Democrats, now is the time to come together and defeat Trump. Let's do it together.
Weeks of pressure
As of Friday, Biden's campaign had said he had no plans to drop out of the race.
“Obviously, the president is in this race,” campaign spokesman Jen O'Malley Dillon told MSNBC's Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski. “You've heard the president say that many times.”
O'Malley Dillon's comments come as multiple reports suggest Biden is withdrawing from the race. NBC reported that members of the Biden crime family are discussing how to best withdraw from the race, and The New York Times reported that Biden is beginning to embrace the idea that he might have to pull out.
Axios reported Thursday that Biden will withdraw by the end of the week.
Democrats have been urging Biden to resign for weeks. Former President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Whip Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Representative Adam Schiff and Hollywood heavyweights have all said Biden should step down. Actor George Clooney called on Biden to step down in a letter to The Times, which also ran an editorial arguing Biden should step down. Major donors have threatened to withhold $90 million in contributions if Biden does not step down.
The pressure campaign began after Biden's disastrous debate with former President Donald Trump showed Americans he was too old to serve another term.
Concerns were apparently heightened when a White House aide let slip that Biden's day would end at 4 p.m., after a neurologist diagnosed him with Parkinson's disease, and Biden himself acknowledged that he would be ready to change into his presidential pajamas by about 8 p.m.
reaction
Reaction to the decision was swift, particularly from President Trump.
“Criminal Joe Biden is not and never has been eligible to run for President or even hold the office of the Presidency!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He got to the presidency on lies, fake news, and not coming out of his basement. Everyone around him, including his doctors and the media, knew he was incapable of being president, and he was. And now look what he's done to our country. Millions of people coming across our borders completely unchecked and unvetted. Many of them from prisons, mental hospitals, and record numbers of terrorists. We will suffer greatly from his presidency, but the damage he caused will be repaired soon. Make America Great Again!
“President Joe Biden is a patriotic American who has always put our country first,” Pelosi wrote on X.
Schumer wrote:
Interestingly, users on X pointed out that Biden is destroying democracy, which is exactly what Biden and other Democrats say Trump would do if elected.
“Joe just dropped out,” wrote Kanekoa the Great, who has 805,000 followers.
Democratic Party elites, corporate media and billionaire donors have successfully pressured the candidate chosen by Democratic primary voters to withdraw because he is losing and losing in the polls.
Democrats are destroying democracy in their pursuit of power.
“That's correct,” X owner Elon Musk responded.
“In the end, the party elite always wins,” Endowed Wokness writes.
In 2016, they used superdelegates against Bernie and tipped the scales in Hillary's favor.
In 2020, as soon as momentum started to pick up for Bernie in the primaries, all of the candidates withdrew and endorsed Biden.
Now they have ousted Joe Biden despite him receiving 87% of the support in the primary.
This is not how democracy works.
“Jill Biden Drops Out of Presidential Race,” the Babylon Bee sarcastically reported.
