The Biden administration secretly changed its own research into the impact of liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports to justify delays in LNG export approvals in 2024, a source from the Department of Energy (DOE) told the Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF).
The original survey, completed in September 2023, found that LNG exports had environmental impacts, four anonymous sources told DCNF. However, they omitted these findings, the final report published in January 2024, allowing them to argue that LNG exports would exacerbate the “climate crisis.”
One DOE source told DCNF:
The Energy Bureau learns that former secretaries (Jennifer) Granholm and the Biden White House have intentionally filled a lot of data and published distorted research to trust the benefits of American LNG. As they prioritized their own political ambitions for the interests of the American people, the administration intentionally deceived the American people and advanced agenda that harmed America's energy security, the environment and American lives.
Emission omitted
According to the Daily Caller, the final draft version of the DOE study was “basically finished… By the end of September 2023, that version was ready to be presented to Biden officials soon after, a Trump DOE source told DCNF.
but:
At the end of September 2023, Biden administration officials left a comment on the final draft version instructing others to stop it despite the other languages of the document, which states that the final version of the other languages are scheduled to be released around the end of September 2023, Trump Doe source told DCNF. According to DOE sources, that version of the study was never published, and Biden Doe thought it was a “working document.”
When the final version of the report was released in January 2024, sources said that important sections from the September edition were omitted. The section stated, “We have discovered that US LNG exports will reduce global (carbon) emissions by replacing more pollution energy sources overseas.” The discovery is hardly surprising. New American reported that LNG was “half of the carbon dioxide in coal and 30% less than oil in the same amount of energy.”
Cover Story
By removing the findings from the final report, the administration has covered what it already wants to do. On January 26, 2024, President Joe Biden signed an executive order suspending the export approval of LNG, but it appears his administration has studied whether it should resume.
In a statement at the time, Biden said:
My administration today announced a temporary suspension on a pending decision to export liquefied natural gas, except for an unexpected immediate national security emergency. During this period, we will be looking closely at the impact of LNG exports on energy costs, US energy security and the environment. This suspension on the approval of the new LNG sees the existential threat of our time, the climate crisis about what it is.
The Maga Republicans deliberately deny the urgency of the climate crisis and denounce the American people of a dangerous future, but my administration is not satisfied. We will not give in to special benefits.
Of course, there are serious doubts, not to mention whether Biden was thinking he was signing, and what words stemmed from him. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) argued that weeks after the announcement, Biden vehemently denied Johnson signing an order that suspended LNG export approvals, claiming that he simply ordered a study of their effectiveness.
Leading science
On the same day as Biden's announcement, DOE issued a press release stating that it would “start the process” to determine whether additional LNG exports were in “public interest.”
Granholm – whose cognitive abilities, even if they were seriously misdirected, have never been asked – went even further than Biden, the daily caller wrote.
Granholm shows that the final version of the study, published in December 2024, shows that “in every scenario, an increase in LNG exports leads to an increase in global net emissions,” indicating that “the approach with business is not recommended, even though it is sustainable.” When the suspension was first announced in January 2024, Granholm said in a statement that the review “ensures that DOE will continue to be a responsible actor using the latest economic and environmental analytics.”
A Trump Do source told the DCNF he hopes the evidence of their allegations will be made public with Congress “quickly.” Then there is conclusive evidence that Granholm's “latest” analysis has been updated by removing inconvenient truths to borrow phrases from former Vice President Al Gore.
As one DOE source told DCNF:
In Granholm (DOE used the most recent analyses), they literally hid the latest economic and environmental analyses that were available to the most recent economic and environmental analyses. When you see what they had hidden and what they were saying at the same time, it becomes very clear that they were not interested in following science to make decisions in the best interest of the American people. They were interested in making politically profitable decisions and manipulating science in the necessary means.
