Commissioner Jaime Lizarraga said in a statement Friday that he will resign on Jan. 17, giving Republicans a head start on a shift in the regulator's policy, including on cryptocurrencies, that could have been delayed for months. He said there is a possibility that it could be done. Currently, Caroline Crenshaw will be the only Democrat on the five-member commission, which begins in 2025, but her term has already expired and could last up to about 18 months. It is in an extension period.
